Sam’s Fair Use Policy
Sam’s Fair Use Policy
FAIR USE POLICY
Fair use. Better for everyone.
This policy helps keep Sam reliable, secure and useful for the organisations and professionals who rely on it.
Last updated: 20th of August 2026
1. Why we have a Fair Use Policy
Sam is designed to support legitimate scientific, professional, educational and R&D activities.
This policy explains reasonable use of Sam and helps protect the service, our customers and the wider Sam community.
2. Appropriate use
Sam may be used to:
investigate detergent and cleaning-product science;
develop and explore formulations;
reformulate existing products;
investigate ingredients and technologies;
explore ingredient substitutions;
troubleshoot formulation challenges;
plan experiments;
interpret technical information;
support learning and professional development;
investigate product performance;
explore sustainability opportunities; and
undertake other legitimate related R&D activities.
3. Professional responsibility
Sam is intended to assist professionals rather than replace professional expertise.
Users remain responsible for determining when:
laboratory testing;
stability testing;
compatibility testing;
safety assessment;
regulatory review;
claims substantiation;
scale-up work; or
other validation
is appropriate before acting on an output.
4. Prohibited use
You must not use Sam:
for unlawful, fraudulent or deliberately harmful purposes;
to infringe another person's intellectual property rights;
to disclose confidential information you are not authorised to disclose;
to impersonate another person;
to gain unauthorised access to another account or organisation;
to circumvent security or access controls;
to deliberately introduce malicious software or code;
to interfere with the availability or operation of Sam;
to probe, scan or attack Sam or connected infrastructure without written permission;
to scrape, harvest or systematically extract Sam's content or databases;
to reverse engineer Sam except where applicable law expressly permits that activity;
to bypass plan restrictions or technical usage controls;
to provide unauthorised third-party access to your account;
to resell or sublicense access without d-labs' agreement; or
to use automated systems in a manner that creates unreasonable load or interferes with other users.
5. Reasonable usage
Sam subscription plans are designed around normal professional use.
Where reasonable technical or usage limits apply, they will be communicated to customers.
We will not treat ordinary professional R&D use as a Fair Use violation merely because a customer makes regular use of the service.
Where usage becomes unusually intensive, automated or materially affects service availability or cost, we may contact you to understand your requirements and agree on a more appropriate arrangement.
6. Security
You must not deliberately attempt to access:
another user's account;
another customer's data;
restricted d-labs systems; or
information to which you have not been granted access.
If you identify a suspected security vulnerability, please report it to:
We ask that you give us a reasonable opportunity to investigate it and do not exploit or publicly disclose the vulnerability in a way that could create additional risk.
7. Responding to misuse
Our response will depend on the nature and seriousness of the issue.
We may:
contact you to understand what has occurred;
ask you to change your use of Sam;
implement reasonable technical restrictions;
temporarily suspend affected functionality; or
terminate access in cases involving serious or repeated breaches.
Except where immediate action is reasonably required for security, legal or safety reasons, we will provide reasonable notice and an opportunity to remedy a breach before terminating access.
8. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Fair Use Policy as Sam and its capabilities develop.
Material changes affecting existing customers will be communicated where reasonably appropriate.
